Donna Hall was born in North Bay, Ontario in 1952. She followed her early interests in painting and drawing with art courses in High School. In 1971 she moved to Toronto to attend the Ontario College of Art. After completing the two year ground course she left college and started working as a darkroom technician, going on to apprentice in photo retouching. This led to her career as a freelance photo retoucher.
In 1990 she married photographer Ron Watts, who shared her love of travel and imagery. On one of their trips through the Southern States in 1992, they visited Santa Fe for the first time. Inspired, Donna returned to her painting practice which had been interrupted while working full time.
In 2000 they moved to Salt Spring Island and built their studio, where Donna, as a member of a creative and supportive arts community continues her artistic pursuits.
